A Rocky Mount woman accused of neglecting a colt has pleaded no contest to animal cruelty. Lacinda Kay St. Clair also pleaded no contest to inadequate care of an animal. the Roanoke Times reports that the 31-year-old St. Clair received a one-year jail sentence after entering her pleas Tuesday in Franklin County Circuit Court. Investigators found the colt and six horses at St. Clair’s home in April. Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Patrick Nix said the colt was emaciated and couldn’t stand. The horses showed some signs of malnutrition. St. Clair said during the hearing that she has given the horses away. Judge Williams Alexander said he would determine whether to suspend any of St. Clair’s sentence after the horses are located and evaluated.
