APCo plans new line in Tazewell, Buchanan counties

applachian powerAppalachian Power is seeking state approval to build a new transmission line and make other improvements in Tazewell and Buchanan counties.The company says the new 138-kilovolt line would run seven and a half miles from Richlands to Whitewood.The $25 million project also includes a one-acre switchyard in Whitewood and improvements to the Richlands substation.Appalachian Power says in a news release that it filed an application with the Virginia State Corporation Commission last week seeking permission for the projects.The company says the improvements are needed to improve reliability and to address a potential circuit overload that’s projected to occur in 2017.
