VA Tech student to be tried this fall in teen slaying

(Information from: The Roanoke Times, http://www.roanoke.com) ROANOKE, Va. (AP) — A former Virginia Tech student is scheduled to go on trial this fall in the slaying of a teenage girl. The Roanoke Times reports that a 10-day jury trial for 20-year-old David Eisenhauer has been set for Nov. 6. Eisenhauer’s trial was supposed to begin next week, but was postponed last month. Eisenhauer is charged with first-degree murder, abduction and hiding 13-year-old Nicole Lovell’s body. Lovell was from the town of Blacksburg, where Virginia Tech is located. VA school board: Court should delay transgender case

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Virginia school board that wants to keep a transgender teen from using the boys’ restroom at his high school is calling on the Supreme Court to delay consideration of the case to allow the Trump administration to weigh in. Trump to push Pentagon upgrade aboard US aircraft carrier

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump is planning to meet with sailors and shipbuilders on an aircraft carrier in Virginia as he promotes his plans for a major buildup of the nation’s military. Man gets leg caught in bear trap in roadside ditch

ONANCOCK, Va. (AP) — Authorities on Virginia’s Eastern Shore helped rescue a man who got his lower leg caught in a bear trap along the side of a road. Onancock Volunteer Fire Department Chief Adam James tells news outlets that the man got his leg caught Saturday evening when he jumped over a fence and into a ditch in order to avoid traffic in Accomack County. Richmond doctor accused of running ‘pill mill’ operation

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Prosecutors say a Richmond-area physician ran an oxycodone “pill mill” operation in which he would accept cash upon giving painkillers to patients he had not examined. News outlets report 61-year-old Dr. Clarence Scranage Jr. was indicted last week and arrested Friday on felony drug charges, including 18 counts of distribution of controlled substances. Court documents say Scranage was a self-described pain-management specialist for the past five years with offices in Richmond and Henrico and Chesterfield counties.
