Company to grow lettuce in Virginia using fish waste

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — A company that uses fish waste to grow organic baby lettuce and arugula plans to create 21 new jobs in Northern Virginia. Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe’s office announced Friday that Kappa Farms will invest $865,000 to open a new “aquaponics” operation in Loudoun County. McAuliffe approved a $40,000 grant from the Governor’s Agriculture and Forestry Industries Development Fund, which Loudoun will match with local funds. ABINGDON, Va. (AP) — Vice President Mike Pence flew into Virginia to throw his weight behind Republican gubernatorial candidate Ed Gillespie. It’s the last day for Virginians to register to vote

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — There’s not much time left to register to vote in next month’s election. Virginia does not allow same-day voter registration, and Monday is the deadline. Mailed applications must be postmarked by Monday. In-person applications must be submitted by 5 p.m., and online applications must be in before midnight.
