Downing Bridge Delays – Overnight on Sunday, April 30-Thursday, May 4

Route 360 on the Downing Bridge in the Tappahannock area will be reduced to a single lane overnight next week for a bridge inspection. Motorists can expect lane closures at the following times, weather permitting: Sunday, April 30 – Thursday, May 4 Single lane closure nightly from 9:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Additionally, a single lane of Route 360 westbound will be closed from midnight to 5 a.m. Friday, May 5. No lane closures are scheduled on Downing Bridge for Thursday, April 27 through Saturday, April 29. The Downing Bridge crosses the Rappahannock River between Richmond and Essex counties....

AVOID I-95 SOUTH DURING UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

The Virginia Department of Transportation urges drivers to avoid southbound I-95 in Dale City for two weekends, April 29-May 1 and May 5-8, as lanes will be closed for bridge deck repair. Congestion and delays are expected to be extensive. Southbound I-95 will be reduced from three to two lanes over Neabsco Creek (mile marker 156) from 9 p.m. Saturday, April 29 to 6 a.m. Monday, May 1, and again from 10 p.m. Friday, May 5 to 6 a.m. Monday, May 8. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED – Colonial Beach Clean Up

On Saturday, the Colonial Beach Foundation has scheduled a Community Work Day.   After the wind damage on Friday night, April 21st, volunteers are needed to help clean up Colonial Beach and surrounding areas. Volunteers are asked to meet at 9am at the Colonial Beach Community Center, 717 Marshall Avenue. Participants are asked to bring a bag lunch and plenty of water. Montross “Community Problem Solvers” win First Place

The Montross Middle School “Community Problem Solvers” which consist of a group of three sixth-graders, have worked throughout the school year to build relationships between local law enforcement officers and elementary age students. In competition, CPS won first place in the State of Virginia and will be going on to represent Westmoreland County and the state of Virginia at the International Competition in Wisconsin in early June. By working with the Westmoreland County Sheriff’s office, the Virginia State Police, Park Police, Marine Police, and the Conservation Police CPS came up with ways to solve problems with each team.
