Carter Morgan, a freshman from Tappahannock, Va., earned his first collegiate victory at the Marlin Invitational last week. Morgan finished as the lone player under par in the 30-man event, helping Virginia Wesleyan to the team title with a 23-over 599 (298-301). Morgan opened with a 2-under 70 on the 7,007-yard par 72-track at Sleepy Hole Golf Course in Suffolk, Va. He carded a 1-over 73 in the final round to clinch a five-stroke victory over teammate Keith Cooper (73-75).
In seven total events, this is the first top-five and third top-10 showing for Morgan. He now owns a 77.1 per round average thru 14 rounds of competition.
