A Richmond woman charged with killing her stepsister will undergo a court-ordered mental competency evaluation.
Forty-year-old Yvette L. Hairston is charged with murder in the death of 20-year-old Samantha Myers.
Hairston appeared in Richmond Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court on Wednesday.
Judge J. Stephen Buis ordered the mental competency evaluation to determine whether Hairston understand the legal system so that she help her lawyer.
Hairston will remain in custody at the Richmond City Jail without bond.
Police say Myers was killed on Feb. 28. Her body was found on March 24 in a wooded ravine. An autopsy found that Myers died of blunt-force trauma to the head.
