Federal investigators say a student pilot killed in a plane crash at Danville Regional Airport was practicing solo landing. A preliminary report by the National Transportation Safety Board says 42-year-old Dr. Scott Banuleos was making his third landing attempt on Aug. 29 when his Piper Warrior II hit an antenna along the runway. The report says witnesses told investigators that on the first landing attempt, the plane banked sharp left and sharp right at a very low altitude and then initiated a go-around maneuver. On the second attempt, the plane landed successfully. Banuelos’ flight instructor told investigators that he was flying on a supervised solo flight. Media outlets report that the NTSB released the report last week.
