RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — A fire has prompted an evacuation of a building on the campus of a university in Virginia.
WWBT-TV reports no one was injured in a chemical fire at the University of Richmond. According to the school’s alert system students and staff were told to evacuate the science center Wednesday afternoon.
The university said on its Twitter shortly before 3:30 p.m. that the science center was being evacuated immediately for a fire alert.
Richmond fire crews responded and a hazmat team is determining what chemicals caused the fire.
Officials say one person had difficulty breathing.
The university said around 6:30 p.m. the incident was under control and that the building remains closed for assessment until further notice.
