Fredericksburg has given investors a 90-day extension to finalize their acquisition of land for a minor league baseball complex. The group had faced a Thursday deadline to study the 38-acre site, prepare construction plans and finalize financing. The property is owned by the U.S. National Slavery Museum, which failed to pay city real estate taxes. The Fredericksburg Treasurer’s Office agreed last October to postpone a public auction of the property for 150 days while details of the sale are finalized. The Free Lance-Star reports that the investors requested and received a 90-day extension. The investors include principals of the Hagerstown Suns and Diamond Nation. The Suns are a Class A affiliate of the Washington Nationals.
