HENRICO, Va. (AP) — Henrico County’s Baker Elementary School will be closed for at least two days after a fire damaged the building.
County schools spokesman Andy Jenks said in a statement that damage to the school’s roof along with water and smoke damage from the Sunday fire will prevent officials from opening the building Monday or Tuesday and “likely beyond.”
Jenks says fire investigators are continuing to explore the cause of the fire.
Officials are evaluating different options for getting students back in the classroom including the temporary use of nearby school facilities. Officials are planning a meeting Monday evening for families whose children attend the school. The meeting is being held at 6 p.m. in the Varina High School auditorium.
No injuries were reported as a result of the fire.
