High School Booster Club Jailed

Kimberly CompitelloA former high school booster club treasurer has been sentenced to three months in jail for embezzlement. A circuit judge in Chesapeake also ordered Kimberly Compitello on Monday to pay $400 a month in restitution. Compitello was accused of embezzling more than $13,800 from Oscar Smith High School’s band booster club. Court records show Compitello wrote numerous unauthorized checks to herself from July 2011 to December 2012. Club president January Davidson says the embezzlement equaled about one-third of the club’s annual budget. The club is funded by annual membership fees and private donations. The Virginian-Pilot reports the club’s finances haven’t recovered. It couldn’t afford to buy a celebratory cake when the band was recognized earlier this year as one of the 50 best high school bands in the state.
