Virginia Beach officials are looking at preserving the historic Kempsville area. The Virginian-Pilot reports that the city has proposed spending $2.6 million to buy land for public space and future development. The money also would be used to install signs for a history walking trail and create a kayak launch on the a tributary of the Elizabeth River. Kempsville served as the hub of Princess Anne County in the 18th century. The area was also the site of a Revolutionary War skirmish that resulted in the war’s first Virginia casualty.
