The Transportation Security Administration says 57 year-old Vicki Tambellini of Kilmarnock was arrested after officers found a loaded handgun in her purse at a security checkpoint at BWI airport.

The TSA said in a statement that Tambelini had a .380 caliber semi-automatic handgun loaded with five bullets in her purse. One bullet was in the chamber.

TSA officers detected the gun last Thursday morning as the woman entered the checkpoint and put her carry-on items on the x-ray conveyor belt. Authorities say she told officials that her son put the gun in her purse before her flight.

It was not known if Tambellini has a lawyer.
