CHARLOTTE, N.C. – For her performance in the circle last week, Kayla Huffman has been recognized as the Big South Conference Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.

“I’m extremely excited for Kayla earning this honor,” Hope Creasy said. “She was big for us in the Campbell series and this award is well-deserved. She was hitting her spots and put great spin on the ball, which led to a lot of key strikeouts and manageable balls in play. This is a great time for her to start getting hot.”

Huffman made three appearances last week, all against Campbell, including earning the win in the series-clincher over Campbell. The junior pitched 10 innings and struck out 14 batters including eight in the series finale with the Fighting Camels. She only allowed two runs on six hits all week.

Her and Abby Morrow combined for a shutout in the series opener on Friday. She closed out game one of the Campbell series with four strikeouts through two innings. The junior followed that up with eight strikeouts and only one walk in the series finale. The Fighting Camels only hit .167 against Huffman.

Huffman and the Highlanders have a big week ahead of them as they host Virginia Tech at 7 p.m., on Wednesday and take on Liberty with a single game on Friday and a doubleheader on Saturday.
