RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — The parents of a man who died in a Virginia boating accident this summer say their son’s friend drunkenly fled the scene and got his parents’ help to try to cover up the crash.
The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports that the parents of 31-year-old Graham McCormick filed the lawsuit Wednesday in a Richmond court against 31-year-old John Randolph Hooper and his parents.
The McCormick family says Hooper had been drinking and speeding when he crashed his parents’ 21-foot (6-meter) powerboat in Lancaster County’s Carter Creek on Aug. 11. The couple’s son died and the lawsuit says Hooper tried to cover up the accident with help from his parents.
Hooper declined to comment to the newspaper. His parents, Rand Hooper and Lucy Hooper, could not immediately be reached for comment.
