Supervisors voted to advertise a proposed 2017-18 (FY18) budget that has a

 

3-cent real estate tax increase and a higher personal property tax on

 

personal-use vehicles.

 

The 3-cent real estate tax hike will make the new rate 56 cents per $100 of

 

value and generate about $600,000 in new revenue.

 

The higher tax on vehicles will generate about $400,000 more revenue.

 

Currently in Middlesex, personal-use vehicles are taxed on only 35% of their

 

fair market value, at a rate of $3.50 per $100. The supervisors want to

 

change this and tax 100% of the fair market values of vehicles at a rate of
$1.60 per $100, which will generate about $400,000 in new revenue.
