Single Lane on Robert O. Norris Bridge

Traffic will be reduced to a single lane on the Robert O. Norris Bridge on Route 3 on Wednesday, August 7. Northbound and southbound traffic will be directed by flaggers to alternate passing through a work zone between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. The work is part of a bridge maintenance project that will be underway through September. The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is cleaning, rehabilitating, and replacing 34 bridge pins at 6 locations this summer to remove rust that has developed due to environmental exposure. The pins and the attached hangars help the bridge beams absorb the stress of vehicle traffic. Most of the maintenance work can be accomplished underneath the bridge and outside of travel lanes, but periodic lane closures are needed for the contractor to set up and move a work platform along the bridge, and position its equipment. The project will have no impact to maritime traffic underneath the bridge. Click Here to read more on the bridge maintenance project. The Norris Bridge is located on Route 3 between Lancaster and Middlesex counties, and crosses the Rappahannock River at White Stone. Motorists can call 511, visit www.511Virginia.org or use VDOT’s 511Virginia free mobile app to find real-time traffic and work zone information in any area of the state.
