A Tappahannock tradition returns! Celebrate spring with the opening of the 10th season of the Tappahannock Farmers’ Market on Saturday, April 21st from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Cross and Prince Streets in Downtown Tappahannock. The Market season is the 3rd Saturday – April through November. The 2018 season adds a June 16th date as there is no RivahFest in June.
The Market always has a diverse mix of produce vendors and food ranging from fresh breads, cakes and pies to kettle corn to beef and sausages. A large number of crafters, artists and jewelry makers are in good company with one or two wineries offering samples in the Wine Garden at each Market. Live music is at every Market.

The Tappahannock Artists Guild remains popular with a featured artist at every Market. The Northern Neck Master Gardeners will once again be at the market. April theme is Plants to attract Pollinators in the Garden. They will also have materials on what to do in the garden; answer questions and provide the latest schedule of events aimed at enhancing your experience in the garden, and information about an upcoming seminar on Shoreline maintenance with Native Plants. Stop by and say hello – the NN Master Gardeners love to talk about gardening!!!

The Indian Rivers Humane Society will continue to be on hand to spread the word on the good work they do for cats and dogs as well as the prospective owners of pets from the shelter. Other non-profit groups such as Essex Backpack Meals, Essex Churches Together and the Tappahannock-Essex Volunteer Fire Department are also returning to share information on their missions and raise funds to continue their community work.

The April 21st Market includes favorite vendors from past seasons as well as many new products. Garner’s Produce, Level Green Farms, Nathan France and Javier Godines will return with their extensive monthly selections. Lover’s Retreat Dairy returns with their locally produced cheeses, spreads, milk, and eggs. Dorothy Miller always has great plants and shrubs at right times of the season during 2018 and you can catch her at her regular place of business right off Church Lane in historic downtown Tappahannock.

Grace Baptist Church is new this year and plans to be at every market with food and crafts to raise funds for their ministry work in Tappahannock.

Throughout the season, artist and jewelry vendors range from Eric Frolia’s oil candles carved from rock to Samantha Dillard’s Perfectly Posh Jewelry and VA Handmade Crafts to Lee Godwin’s amazing ceramic work to custom early American woodwork from Bill Jenkins of Montross. The Market always has great music and the 2018 schedule details are almost complete. The Market plans to feature some great young musicians from Tappahannock Elementary School in April or May. Might have to substitute some talented adults if the students have better plans but the Market Manager is pleased to have a date from the schools concert schedule! Will be especially nice to see students do something most of us would have absolutely no skill or ability doing – regardless of age!
