The University of Mary Washington is looking to acquire a former Hostess Brands property in Fredericksburg. The University of Mary Washington Foundation submitted a bid for the property on Wednesday. Foundation CEO Jeff Rountree tells The Free Lance-Star that the bid is confidential. He says he doesn’t know when bidders will be notified whether their bid was accepted. The property includes a 1,890 square-foot retail storefront, a 7,300 square-foot office and a 5,200 square-foot warehouse with truck garage. Hostess Brands filed for bankruptcy protection in January 2012. It announced last November that it was going out of business after a strike by its U.S. bakers union crippled operations.
