The world’s first nuclear-powered aircraft carrier is back at the Virginia shipyard where it was built more than 50 years ago. Officials say the USS Enterprise was towed from Naval Station Norfolk to Newport News Shipbuilding on Thursday. More than 100 shipbuilders involved with the construction and maintenance of the carrier were on board. The Enterprise was taken out of service in December after 51 years of service. Huntington Ingalls Industries’ shipyard will remove the nuclear fuel aboard the ship. The Enterprise is scheduled to depart the shipyard in 2016.
