VDOF Grants Awarded

Vol Fire DeptThrough its Volunteer Fire Assistance (VFA) program, the Virginia Department of Forestry (VDOF) has awarded more than $200,000 in grants to 154 volunteer fire departments (VFDs) across the Commonwealth. The grants, ranging in size from $500 to $2,600, were awarded and will be used by the departments for such purchases as personal protective equipment, communications gear, water tanks for brush trucks, wildland fire specialty tools and training materials. Area Volunteer Fire Departments receiving grants were: Callao and Fairfields in Northumberland County, Central King & Queen, Upper King & Queen at Newtown, and Walkerton in King & Queen County, Cople District at Kinsale in Westmoreland County, Hartfield in Middlesex County, Aylett in King William, and the Tappahannock-Essex County Volunteer Fire Departments. A total of 163 fire departments applied for grants this year, and 154 were approved.
