Days after the government announced an auction date for wind power leases off Virginia’s coast, a state authority aiming to develop an Atlantic Coast wind industry is scheduled to meet in Richmond. The Virginia Offshore Wind Development Authority will take up a number of issues Wednesday, including an update on an ocean survey. The panel includes state officials and industry representatives. Monday, the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management announced a Sept. 4 date for the auction of a vast area of the Atlantic for leasing by energy companies seeking to develop wind farms. An industry group, the Virginia Offshore Wind Coalition, is also promoting the development of offshore winds. The group has a new chairman, Charles R. deCuir, who is an executive with the risk management and insurance brokerage Rutherfoord.
