Northern Neck Land Conservancy will hold a Preservation of Farmlands, Woodlands, and Wetlands information session for landowners who would like to learn more about conservation easements. The gathering will be at the Lancaster Library in Kilmarnock on Tuesday, February 27th at 6:00 PM.
Board members and staff will explain the conservation easement process, often used to protect woodlands, marshes, farmland, or other natural habitats or land. Local easement donors will share their experience with conservation easements and be available to answer questions.
“This year marks the Conservancy’s 20th year of successfully guiding area landowners through the easement process. I am excited about what more we can do to help protect our beautiful region for generations to come,” said Board President James Russell.
Over its 20-year presence serving the Northern Neck and Essex County, the nationally accredited 501c3 non-profit has helped landowners preserve 7,474 acres.
“People in the community may not have heard about conservation easements – how they often make good financial sense and support regional agribusiness and aquaculture,” said Executive Director Lisa Biever. “Some may have received misinformation about how they work. We’re looking forward to sharing the Land Conservancy’s mission to preserve our rural heritage.
The information meeting, held in the Lancaster Library at 16 Town Centre Drive in Kilmarnock, includes a presentation and open discussion. Light snacks and refreshments will be available.
