As search and rescue teams in other states scramble to find people that Hurricane Helene left isolated, Virginia believes everyone is accounted for, after first responders took ATVs into an isolated corner of Russell County to check on families there, Gov. Glenn Youngkin said.
“We had some school-age children we were very worried about on Wednesday and we sent ATVs up around washed-out areas and they’ve been located. … Thank God that we think everybody has been accounted for,” Youngkin said.
He said stories he’s heard about rescue efforts have been inspiring.
“It’s neighbors helping neighbors, strangers helping strangers,” he said.
