As Virginia steps up its cleanup of voter lists, Tuesday is the last day to register or update your registration. If you miss the deadline, you can still vote in the Nov. 5 election, though it takes an extra step.

In Virginia, you can register after the deadline, including on Election Day, which then means you can cast a provisional ballot.

A provisional ballot is counted if at any time until noon on the Friday after Election Day — Nov. 8 this year — you can show your city or county Electoral Board that you are eligible to vote.
