NEW KENT, Va. — At approximately 11:27 a.m. Friday, Nov. 8, 2024, Virginia State Police responded to a single-vehicle crash on westbound Interstate 64 at the 206-mile marker in New Kent County that resulted in two fatalities.
Eric Latrell Upshaw, 36, of Walkerton, Va., was operating a 2003 Kenworth T800 when a tire blew, causing the truck to run off the road and strike a tree. The vehicle then caught fire. Upshaw and his passenger, Randall Benton Cooper, 40, of Glen Allen, Va., succumbed to injuries at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
