(Richmond) The Virginia War Memorial will commemorate Black History Month with a special program highlighting the contributions of African American military veterans.

The program entitled “GENERATIONS: African Americans and Legacies of Military Service” will be presented at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at the Virginia War Memorial located at 621 South Belvidere Street, Richmond, Va. 23220. The event is free, as is onsite parking. Members of the public are invited and encouraged to attend.

A panel of African American veterans from Virginia will share memories of their time serving in the U.S. Armed Forces and explore their families’ traditions of military service.

“African Americans have served in every conflict from the American Revolution to the Global War on Terrorism,” noted Dr. Clay Mountcastle, Virginia War Memorial Director. “The names of many African American heroes who gave the ultimate sacrifice while serving in combat from World War II, Korea, Vietnam, the Persian Gulf, Iraq, and Afghanistan are etched on the walls of the Shrine of Memory here at the Memorial.”
