Henrico County’s plan to build the GreenCity arena has ended, as it will reclaim the property and terminate its agreement with the developer, the county said Friday.

The developers did not make a roughly $5 million payment due Thursday, ending an ambitious project to build an environmentally friendly neighborhood at the former Best Products site in northern Henrico. The county still wants to build an arena with a new developer.

Greater Richmond has not had a working, large-scale arena since the Coliseum hosted the Harlem Globetrotters in December 2018. After that, the city shut it down, saying the structure, which opened in 1971, was beyond its useful life. It has sat vacant since.
