It’s the largest jackpot ever won in Virginia.
Someone who bought a Mega Millions ticket at E & C Mid-Atlantic in Burgess, Virginia, has won an incredible prize. That ticket matched all six numbers in the June 27 Mega Millions drawing to win a jackpot estimated at $348 million.
While the winner has yet to come forward and claim the prize, today Virginia Lottery Executive Director Khalid R. Jones was at the store to present E & C Mid-Atlantic Vice President of Operations Juan Torres with an oversized check for $50,000. That is the bonus Virginia Lottery retailers earn for selling a winning ticket worth $5 million or more.
“This is a historic jackpot win in Virginia, the largest ever won in the Commonwealth,” said Jones. “But it means more than just an incredible stroke of luck for the winner or winners. Proceeds from the sale of Virginia Lottery games support our K-12 public schools and we see success thanks to our valuable retail partners. We are proud to partner with thousands of businesses, big and small, and help contribute to their bottom line with selling bonuses like this one.”
“This may be the luckiest store in Virginia!” said Torres. “All of us at E & C Mid-Atlantic are excited that this record-setting prize came from a ticket sold at our Burgess store. We are proud to work with the Virginia Lottery every day to help raise money for K-12 public education.”
Whoever has the ticket has 180 days from the drawing to claim the prize. That person will have a choice: either take the full jackpot amount, before taxes, in annual payments over 30 years, or take a one-time cash option of an estimated $155.5 million before taxes.
Mega Millions drawings are held Tuesday and Friday nights at 11 p.m. The odds of matching all six numbers to win the jackpot are 1 in 290,472,336. Ten Mega Millions jackpots have now been won in Virginia since the game began in 2002.
All Virginia Lottery profits go to K-12 public education in Virginia. In Fiscal Year 2024, the Lottery raised more than $934 million, making up approximately 10 percent of Virginia’s total K-12 school budget.
