Virginia’s annual tax-free weekend will start this Friday. Shoppers will be exempt from sales taxes when they purchase school supplies, clothes and other essential products.
From 12:01 a.m. Friday until 11:59 p.m. Sunday, footwear, emergency preparedness items, and Energy Star and WaterSense products will not be subject to sales tax.
School supplies up to $20 per item and clothing or footwear up to $100 per item are exempt, as are portable generators up to $1,000 per item, gas-powered chainsaws up to $350 per item, chainsaw accessories up to $60 per item and other specific hurricane preparedness tools up to $60 per item.
