FREDERICKSBURG – Route 3 travelers can expect brief overnight delays crossing the Robert O. Norris Bridge between Lancaster and Middlesex counties on the evenings of Monday, Aug. 4-Wednesday, Aug. 6.
Route 3 will be reduced to a single lane from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. nightly on Monday-Wednesday evenings, ending on the morning of Thursday, Aug. 7.
Automated flagging devices will direct traffic through the work zone. Flagging crew members operate the devices, which can be adjusted to respond to congestion or incidents on the bridge.
Construction is advancing on a $7.1 million maintenance project to replace or strengthen portions of the bridge’s structural steel. The project will help to maintain the Norris Bridge as preliminary engineering work progresses on a separate bridge replacement project. Structural steel repairs are expected to be complete by September 2026.
Also, Route 360 over the Rappahannock River between Richmond County and the Town of Tappahannock will be reduced to a single lane overnight for bridge maintenance on Sunday-Thursday evenings.
Work will start the evening of Thursday, Aug. 7, and will continue nightly on Sunday-Thursday evenings weather permitting. No overnight work is scheduled for Friday and Saturday evenings. Route 360 will be reduced to a single lane from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. on evenings when work is underway.
Crews will be repairing the bridge deck. Repairs are estimated to be underway for three weeks, through late August 2025.
