Hanover County prosecutors are pursuing animal cruelty charges against a couple who owned a menagerie of farmhouse animals including eight horses, two pigs, 14 dogs, a cat and a tortoise named Tortillini.
Jillian and Christopher Barry face six charges of animal cruelty. They appeared in court on Friday morning for an arraignment. Jillian Barry said the charges were incorrect, but the couple declined to comment early in the proceedings. The case is headed to trial on Oct. 16.
