State auditors have begun their probe of the Virginia Birth Injury Fund, the special state program which provides payments to families whose children suffered catastrophic brain damage at birth.
The action comes after state Sen. Scott Surovell, D-Fairfax, requested an intervention from the Virginia Inspector General Michael Westfall in June.
