Democrat Abigail Spanberger continues to lead Republican Winsome Earle-Sears in the contest for governor, but Republican incumbent Jason Miyares has taken a slight edge over Democrat Jay Jones in the contest for attorney general, according to a new poll from Virginia Commonwealth University’s Wilder School.

In the new poll, Spanberger received 49% of the vote to 42% for Earle-Sears among registered voters. The margin is down slightly from Spanberger’s nine-point edge in VCU’s September poll.

In the new survey, Miyares received 45% of the vote to 42% for Jones. In VCU’s September poll, Jones led Miyares by 46.7% to 41.4%.

In the contest for lieutenant governor, Sen. Ghazala Hashmi, D-Chesterfield, received 44% of the vote to 43% for John Reid, a longtime Richmond radio host. In VCU’s September poll, Hashmi led Reid 44.5% to 41.3%. Reid has closed the gap even though Hashmi has a big fundraising advantage and the candidates have not debated.
