CAROLINE COUNTY, VA – Following an extensive investigation by the Virginia State Police, charges have been filed against a Maryland man in a fatal car crash that occurred in Caroline County last month.

A Caroline County Grand Jury indicted Joseph C. Yost, III, 38, of Edgewater, Md., on November 12, 2025, on two counts of involuntary manslaughter and reckless driving. Yost was apprehended on Monday, November 24.

Virginia State Police responded to the three-vehicle crash at approximately 8:30 p.m. on October 5, 2025, on Interstate 95 southbound at the 110-mile marker. Yost was driving a 2017 Ford Fusion in the center lane at a high rate of speed when his vehicle struck a 2010 Chevrolet Camaro.  The impact disabled the Camaro, and its lights, and moved the vehicle into the right travel lane.  The Camaro was then struck in the rear by a 2018 Freightliner tractor trailer.

The driver of the Camaro, Zane P. Jackson, 21, of Montpelier, Va., was taken to an area hospital where he later died from his injuries.  Two teenage passengers also suffered serious injuries.

Neither Yost nor the tractor trailer driver were injured in the crash.

All drivers had valid licenses and are legal citizens.
