The nonprofit designated to advocate on behalf of Virginia’s disabled is sounding the alarm on a disturbing pattern of deaths occurring under the watch of licensed care providers.
The disAbility Law Center of Virginia published a report this month analyzing 181 deaths among people living with intellectual disabilities. The group found incidents where licensed caregivers didn’t perform lifesaving CPR, didn’t call 911, and 14 choking deaths among disabled people who were on food safety plans because they were at risk of choking.
