Warsaw, VA  On Sunday evening, the Northern Neck Electric Cooperative service area experienced some moderate ice accumulation, mainly in the Northumberland County area near the river, causing more than 2,300 members to be without power beginning at about 8 p.m. NNEC crews immediately responded, working through the night and into the next day, and restored power to all affected members by 6 p.m. Monday evening.

While we’re thankful the storm was not as strong as first predicted, our team came together and was prepared for the worst,” says NNEC President and CEO Richard McLendon. “Our effective right-of-way management program also helps minimize service interruptions resulting from unhealthy trees.”

NNEC thanks its contractor crews with Asplundh Tree Experts and Danella Companies for their assistance today and throughout the year. Several trees and limbs were cleared by Asplundh crews, clearing the way for line crews to replace four broken poles and make other repairs. Co-op crews received invaluable support from administrative staff, who prepared lunches, answered member phone calls, ensured communications among crews in the field, and cleared snow and ice around co-op facilities. Storm restoration is a total team effort.

I am proud of how quickly, safely and efficiently our crews performed,” says Steve Minor, vice president of engineering and operations. “All power was restored in less than 24 hours. We were also able to cancel the request for mutual aid, which helps save the co-op money.”
