Ten people in the state visited emergency rooms with suspected carbon monoxide exposure between Friday and Sunday, said Dr. Cameron Webb, the state health commissioner. That number is almost double the daily average during the winter.
Cases of hypothermia also shot up during the snow and ice storm that blanketed Virginia on Saturday and Sunday. There were 83 cases of hypothermia statewide over the three-day period, which was also close to double the normal rate.
