With Gov. Glenn Youngkin gone, Democrats are reasserting priorities that the Republican governor had blocked for four years, including a return to the state voter registration compact that a previous GOP governor had helped to create.
In a party-line vote on Tuesday, the Senate Finance & Appropriations Committee approved legislation to require Virginia to rejoin the Electronic Registration Information Center (ERIC), a nonpartisan compact that then-Gov. Bob McDonnell helped to found in 2012, from which Youngkin pulled Virginia’s membership the year after he took office.
