Bills to limit immigration agents’ arrests and allow retail sales of marijuana passed the General Assembly as it wrapped up the 2026 session on Saturday.
A push to allow internet casino games failed, and another to legalize skill games nearly did, despite some of the most intensive lobbying of recent years.
However, the end-of-session rush won’t be the end of legislators’ work, as they did not get around to passing the biggest bill of all: a state budget for the next two fiscal years. They’ll be coming back to Richmond later for a special session to tackle that, because they couldn’t find a way past House of Delegates objections to the Senate’s proposal to end a $1.9 billion sales tax exemption for data centers.
