Prosecutors in Caroline County have upgraded murder charges against four people in the March death of an 18-year-old Hopewell High School student.

Online court records show that on Wednesday, a grand jury in Caroline County indicted the four − Rashad Mayfield, 23, of Glen Allen; Devonti Pettaway, 20, of Chesterfield County; Kennady Lambert, 18, of Hopewell; and Jaden Phillips, 18, of Richmond − on first-degree murder charges. Each originally faced second-degree murder charges.

In a related matter, the Caroline County Sheriff’s Department announced Thursday that the same four suspects in the Hopewell case have also been charged with the murder of a 56-year-old woman whose body was found several days before and about five miles away from where Jayden Michael McComber’s body was found.
