Officials say that a man who was believed to be about 65 years old drowned at Shark Tooth Island at around 2 PM on Monday afternoon.
Westmoreland County Sheriff’s Office, along with local fire and Westmoreland County EMS, responding to reports that a man had fallen into the water from his boat near Sharks Tooth Island in the lower Potomac River were joined by multiple rescue boats from Westmoreland County, King George County, the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources, and Virginia Marine Resources Comission. Responders from St. Mary’s County and Charles County, Maryland, along with the United States Coast Guard and helicopters from the Maryland State Police and the United States Coast Guard also assisted in the search effort.
The man’s body was recovered from the water. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. The incident remains under investigation by the Westmoreland County Sheriff’s Office. The identity of the victim has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.
