Following recent rainfall, the Drought Monitoring Task Force recommended deescalating the drought warning advisory to a watch advisory in 15 counties and 10 cities in the New River, Middle James and York-James drought evaluation regions.
Rain is approximately 7.8 inches below normal on average throughout the commonwealth, according to the DEQ. This represents the second-driest water year on record.
