Diesel fuel prices hit a record high in Virginia and across the United States on Wednesday as the standoff between the U.S. and Iran in the Persian Gulf drove crude oil futures above $100 a barrel.
The average price of diesel reached nearly $5.95 per gallon in Virginia on Tuesday, surpassing the record set in mid-June 2022 at the peak of inflation following the COVID-19 pandemic.
