The administration of Gov. Abigail Spanberger has quietly ended an initiative to ban transgender girls in the state from playing girls school sports.
The move was launched last year by the State Board of Health and endorsed by then-Gov. Glenn Youngkin.
Dr. B. Cameron Webb, the state health commissioner, said that following a legal review, the office of the governor and the Virginia Department of Health “did not proceed with the proposed regulation.”
