President Donald Trump has revoked a 17-year-old federal order requiring federal, state and local governments to work together to clean up Chesapeake Bay.
That order cleared the way to set goals for reducing the nitrogen and phosphorus that feed the algae blooms that create the bay’s annual summertime dead zones.
The revocation order also directs the EPA to coordinate with Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Delaware, New York, West Virginia and the District of Columbia to address the financial burdens imposed by stormwater fees and to explore cost-free ways to clean the bay.
