The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is defending its search of what it called “publicly available data” in personal voting records in Virginia and other states, even though Attorney General Jay Jones said the federal actions may violate state law.
A spokesperson for the department called the “Unlawful Voter Initiative” a necessary response to prevent non-citizens from voting in U.S. elections.
