The Airforce Office of Special Investigations on Monday issued a public appeal seeking information regarding the May 2023 death of Makai Cummings, a U.S. airman who was hit and killed while changing a tire on the shoulder of Interstate 295 in Hanover County.
Cummings, then 20, was driving from Baltimore to Seymour Johnson Airforce Base in North Carolina at around 2 a.m. on May 8, 2023, when he pulled over near the 37.80 mile-marker on I-295 South, Virginia State Police previously said. As he was changing the tire in the dark, Cummings was struck by a passing vehicle.
Over a year later, the case remains unsolved.
