President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from his campaign for a second term following pressure from within his own party resets the presidential race less than four months before the election and removes a distraction for Virginia Democrats running in races to determine control of Congress.
Both of Virginia’s U.S. senators, Tim Kaine and Mark Warner, backed Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democrats’ presidential nominee, as did all six Democrats in Virginia’s U.S. House delegation — Reps. Bobby Scott, D-3rd, Jennifer McClellan, D-4th, Abigail Spanberger, D-7th, Don Beyer, D-8th, Jennifer Wexton, D-10th, and Gerry Connolly, D-11th — as well as Virginia House Speaker Don Scott, D-Portsmouth.
